Don't do it Danny, twisting is apiece of cake and 100% reliable.

OK Steve, even on the 40lb wire (for bait fishing)

Have always crimpedy traces never twisted and until now always bought made up lure traces, chicos (is his site still running had trouble ordering some hooks and traces recently?)

Danny, I used to crimp all my bait traces and bought my lure traces.
After having a look at Steve's bait and lure traces I've now swapped over to twisting everything myself.

I think its more reliable, faster and cheaper.

90 lb stranded wire and size 6 Berkley cross lok pictured. With a stranded wire leader maintaining max bs wire strength is down to two things - avoiding any slippage, even if the joint slips a little and then locks up some strength will have been lost. Twice through the swivel eye may reduce slippage of the crimp joint or a twisted one but reduces wire strength due to the distortion of the wire at this point. The leader pictured shows a crimp which was incorporated to reduce the need for extreme angles of the wire and acts as a protective sleeve when passed through the lok or swivel, the crimp is not compressed in any way.
