How do you store/carry yours?

Post by Frenchieboy »

I am starting to realize just how addictive this lure fishing can be, so much so that I am running out of space to store and carry my lures! I store and carry all of my soft plastics etc in a double storage case I got from LIDL for about a fiver which measures around 13 inches X 11 inches. However now that my collection of lures has grown I have no space to store the larger jerk baits that I have and am buying! Most of my jerk baits average around 150mm and I need suggestions for storing/carrying them that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg so what do you guys suggest please?

I use plastic tool boxes from B&M - very good with adjustable dividers and good clips. Come in three sizes and I tend to store lures by type.

It is addictive even more so if you travelling internationally esp US like I do -

Yes, I know that too, but please don't tell the wife! :laughs:

The storage box I got from LIDL is the same as the ones from B&M, looks like I need to take a trip to B&M then as LIDL no longer have them in stock!

My larger lures like burts, spinnerbaits, buster jerks are kept in a really useful box. I use pipe lagging on all hooks to stop them from tangling. I can’t remember the exact size, but was about a fiver from Homebase. For soft plastics I keep them all separate in a large Plano box, which I was recommend in the lure section. I keep them separate as I’ve had them react with hard lures in the past. All other smaller lures go in a tool box from the range. With the removable dividers, I can fit dozens of lures into it. When out on the bank, I take a small selection of the larger lures in a Tupperware box.

The big, deep fox lure boxes store all my big lures and smaller SG store all smaller ones. When actually fishing though I use a butty box with a clip type lid and put in the selection for the day, just makes things so much easier.

+1 for B&M boxes.
Cheap as chips and never damaged a soft plastic either

You can carry all your lures?

I can barely lift my boat lure bag, and that's not even half of my biggest lures....

Smallest lures in various Plano boxes (10+ boxes) carry 6 boxes in a stackable lure bag.

Medium lures in various assorted multi compartment storage boxes of various makes and sizes depending on core lures or obscure/ specialist purpose types, lost count but probably another 20 boxes- carry in whatever large fishing holdall I can fit them in depending on type of fishing. Medium or large rucksack for mobile bank fishing up to an old Milsurp deployment bag on the boat

Largest lures (20cm +) in assorted sizes of tool boxes and Savage bear WLMP soft cases to fit in an XXL Savage gear WLMP bag. These are great for really big 25-40cm lures but certainly not if you have to carry them, I only use when boat fishing.

Further storage of filing cabinets and large drawers in my garage, plus a precarious pile on top of stuff I haven't found room to properly store yet. Several extra large plastic storage crates of spares and other random lures.
Plus at the moment two unopened boxes full from Sportfish in Sweden waiting to be unpacked.

Savage gear boxs or bigger lures deep and shallow ones large or xl size , and fox rage boxs for small soft plastics, sold that bag they cam with ages ago.

also have a large carryall that takes two deep bxs and a shallow, thats only for at home tho that houses all my 4plays - i have fair few!

i just stack the boxs up top ones are most used, im actually gonna buy a small cabinet, liek a book shelf with storage at the bottom for my all my lure gear, should tidy it up a bit.

for actual fishing i have two shallow boxs ( sometimes a swimbait wrap if using just BIG lures), and i pick and fill them according to venue ill be fishing, once ive dried my lures after use they go back to sorted boxs.

then wehn i go next i'll pick to where im going, i find this the best way, often i only take one box, dont need tons of lures if you pick wisely.

Spiderwire tackle bag is pretty good.
Comes with 4 or 5 plastic lure boxes and a few other compartments.
Not too big or heavy and easy to swap lure boxes over if you're only fishing a certain size of lure for the day etc so you can take as little or as much as you like.
Bought in the states for about 30 pounds a few years ago but not sure if it's available in the UK.

This. Don't know what the English equivalent of a store carrying anything from auto-parts to fishing gear to tools to almost-anything-you-can-imagine would be.

Measures about 30x20 width and length and is about 7cm deep. Plenty space for even the biggest lures I would fish.

I seem to recall that BFT or some other brand carry a very similar box. About twice the price of the unbranded one listed above though.

Storage and transporting are two very different things.

Storage is simple - Plano 3700 boxes and Really Useful 4L or 9L boxes, which have the same footprint as the Planos. Total I have for my modest collection is equivalent to 24 Plano 3700 and 9 3600 standard boxes. Super neat, everything in one place and easy to select the lures I want to use on a session. I keep spinnerbaits and spoons in Really Useful 1.6L boxes. I often use hook protectors in the open boxes, deeper boxes. That's it, no lures dotted randomly around the house, everything in one place. Mine all fit into a single bedroom cupboard.

For bank and boat, first off, anyone taking a mountain of lures either lacks confidence or competence. You take what you need and that's based on where you are fishing, how you are fishing and the conditions you are expecting. These guys who take the kitchen sink make me laugh. I mean I was out at the weekend and fished a shallow lake and a nearby river. I took five different jerkbaits, two sinking swimbaits and three spinnerbaits for the river. I took two different rod set ups and swapped them out from the car mid session. All the lures went into my waistcoat pocket. I did OK as well... the only time I take a lot of lures, but then that's still all into one boat bag or one big Plano, is when I am fishing multiple methods, e.g. trolling and casting or expect varying conditions/am fishing for more than one day.

Bank - lure bucket to take a decent selection, say around 20 ish larger lures. Just drill holes around the circumference and hang your lures in it. Sometimes, I just have a few in the waistcoat pocket and some more in plastic lunchboxes in the rucksack. If I am perch or chub fishing with lures, I just take small Plano boxes and tuck them into the rucksack or waistcoat pockets.

Boat - ABU boat bag with 2 Plano 3700 deep and 2/3 regular 3700, plus extras in the side pockets. For when I need to take more, which isn't often, one Plano 7771 box. It's a big box and mine is modified to take two deep Plano 3700 in the drawer section. Oh I also have a Wychwood boat bag that takes several Plano 3600, I use that for zander or perch fishing from the boat, so plenty of small or vertical baits. If you're struggling to lift your lure bag, you either need to visit the gym or seriously cut down. Like I said, it ain't clever, just take what you need. If you think about your last few trips, how many lures did you actually use from the ones you took - not many is the answer for most of us.
