10ft 1.25lb TC Perch rod - recomendations

Post by ScottW91 »

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a Perch rod for my 7 year old son. Ideally 10/11ft so he can manage it better than my 12ft rods.

Can anyone recommend one? Looked at the Korum Phase 1 rod for commercials, though not sure it'll have the back bone when he hooks the odd Pike.

cheers,

I have a pair of Drennan Specialist Duos in 11ft 1.25lb. Really like them. A nice soft, mellow, action. If you don't particularly need the quiver sections you could also look at the Korum Allrounders in 11ft. They seem great value for money. Not sure I have ever seen anything similar in 10ft.

Find a John Wilson Avon quiver 11ft to 13ft absolutely bomb proof, I've had barbel to 10+ and double figure carp on mine, but they are.perfect for decent size perch.

Excellent rod Pete.

I have one, plus a pair of JW 'Specialist' 11ft, 1 1/4 lb tc (like the Avon quiver, but without the extra quiver top or the 2ft extension).

You don't see the 'Specialist' model come up for sale very often, but they are extremely versatile rods that feel soft initially, but will eventually lock up if a big fish needs to be stopped without the corks popping and creaking.

I've often thought they'd be ideal for perch fishing.

A mate of mine really likes the Korum 'All-rounder' that fossil fish mentioned. He has had carp to 22 lb on his while bream fishing.

I got 2 11ft, 1.25tc Korum Allrounder rods from the wife and kids for my birthday a fortnight ago. Really pleased with that.

I christened one on the river at the weekend and landed a stack of Chub including a new pb of 5.7.

Really nice rods.

Thanks gents!

I'll keep an eye out for the JW rods Pete ;)

In the meantime, I've seen a nice Korum one that Gary Knowles thinks is ideal for the little lad

cheers all

Have a look at The Tackle Box "Darent valley" range, they do a lot or rods in the 11ft length and the butts are not to long.

If you can find one the 11ft original power-mesh Avon would be my choice. It was super light and had a fish playing action that was just fantastic.
I’ve stopped double figure barbel with them when the brakes need applying so they’ll handle a big pike with care.
They are more common in the 12ft length but if one at 11ft comes up I think your lad will have no trouble with it. They are exceptionally light well balanced rods.
