Hi dave what hooklink material are you using, thanks gary.
For worms I'm using Mason Hard Type Mono, for deadbaits wire.

RE; Masons line. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same stuff used for hinged stiff rigs etc in Carp fishing, something like ESP stiff link

Could well be. At an inflated price?

Haven’t caught an eel in ages, turns out a club lake I haven’t fished in years has some big ones in still so think I might give it a go. I’d heard there were eels in there but only fished it for the bream and pike.
What do we reckon, haven’t gone after them properly before, was thinking I’d mix up some groundbait with fish oil and a few chopped up bits of fish and try half a roach on the hook?
This lake is fairly shallow, one corner with a lot of fallen trees and snags next to the car park and the rest is quite open, so I suppose that’s where I’ll start off.

Cheers Nick, I’ve had a look on there site. Might give it a go next week. Laid up after an operation so can’t walk too far for a bit, as good a time as any.
Caught a few from the rivers but only by accident. They seem to have disappeared from the rivers round here or at least I haven’t caught any.

what it's all about.
Hook in the mouth photo? Social media is awash with close ups of lures in the mouths of Chub, Pike or Perch. And Perch and Pike with flys looking sexy in a fishes trap.

Perhaps this daft thing is catching on with Eel guys?
I don't know, I think it's more to show that lip hooking is possible, here's another for you to enjoy 😁

That's how most of my bootlaces have been hooked this year. Only a couple have taken it inside the mouth out of 20 or so. Why did we use long hooklinks all those years?
When I started, I used 6inch traces, but still the low resistance type rigs, I'd sit in a chair next to the rods, I did deep hook some, but a lot less than the js rig long trace users. My standard trace now is 3" and I fish off the baitrunner, and I haven't deep hooked for a long time. Its good to see most of us hardly deep hook any eels at all now.

If there's a bit of interest in rigs, maybe Dave, Duffy and any others should put some rig pictures up for any newcomers, I would be willing.

While chub fishing off the boat the other night, my mate had three very nice and very strong eels but only got one hook back Im afraid, all on luncheon meat so he came off that and went on bread flake.
Luncheon meat is almost unfishable for me in summer and would make a fine go to bait for the eel enthusiast.

Some of the lads in the NAC have really brought on eel rigs over the years, when I first joined around 25 years ago it was a standard JS rig with a 12 inch plus trace in case of baits being picked up by Pike. All credit to NAC members last and present.

The simple answer is try fishing for chub on meat!
