Lidls used to do a pork and Stilton sausage. They were really really good unfortunately they stopped selling them a good while ago. I've been chasing them in other shops ever since.

Over here there's a sausage that's quite similar to Cumberland sausage. Every time our lass goes away I cook it for myself as she's too healthy to eat it. I always roast sausages - it's the only way!

We do produce good sausages in Suffolk. Why Newmarket is particularly known for them I have no idea!

The Lincs sausages I've had have always been too heavy on the herbs for my liking.

These aren't deluxe by any means, but if you've got a co-op that sells CM (Calder millerfield) pork links then try them! They're just plain cheap sausages, not in the upmarket 'outdoor bred, organic fed' section. Not sure if they'll have them in England but these are really tasty, and the right price for a miserable Scotsman too.

Edit # no that doesn't mean they're free!

Hammy introduced me to Powters and Musks. IIRC his sister worked at Musks.

Powters were available in my local Tesco for a while quite a few years ago.

Both great sausages!

And me.

There are actually three Newmarket sausage producers. Powters, Musks and one other that gets mentioned but that I’ve never come across.

Musks have three royal warrants. Our late queen loved them. They’ve become so renowned that the name, β€˜Newmarket sausage’ has been listed as a world food.

I often try other butchers sausages too, and there are several that I enjoy as much as the Newmarkets.

She did, and I used to be able to get them for peanuts, hence the various cook ups down the years.

It’s about time you came down and had another Bankside supper.πŸ™‚

I remember me and Rik Westley anchoring up in the middle of Llandofthedeadog ressie many years ago while I knocked up a bunch of sausage sarnies. By the time I’d finished cooking them there must have been half a dozen boats all linked together by hand around us. Like a floating greasy spoon. πŸ˜€

Clonakilty sausage from the Emerald Ilse are untouchable.
Pity I missed my trip this March as I usually bring back a stack along with Rudds white and black pudding.
And I wonder why I had to have a double bypass.

Certainly are in my case Jason. πŸ˜€
The only fish we saw on that bright becalmed day was a trout pushing five pounds, that, in the middle of a crap day’s fishing, leapt from nowhere and landed in the middle of a couple of piker’s boat! πŸ˜€
