Anti Kink Vanes

By the way. What happened to anti kink vanes? I have two types amongst my 1970's spinning gear, both semicircles of clear plastic/thin perspex. One type has a swivel at either end and the other had a slot allowing you to just clip it over the line.

Did they go out with Devon Minnows? I remember old salmon books saying you need an anti-kink vane with a Devon Minnow... but since I've never been anywhere where an angler is referred to as a "rod" I never got to try this out in practice.

Someone was asking about them the other day when I was in GAC so must still be available, wouldn't trust those little brass efforts on pike..

I still use them, depending on what lure I am using and especially when trolling, I have seen some terrible messes when pals have trolled say, large Mepp without one, when they bring it in the line just goes ballistic a tangles up something chronic, like a proper birds nest.
You can still buy them and there are some much more robust ones around Davy if you not sure of the lighter ones.

It is will. It's just a bigger tougher version of the traditional ones we get here.
It just completely failed to prevent the line kinking.. I think I threw it overboard . I'd have been better off with a sharpes BB swivel on the line.
