You're not doing anything wrong.Just keep moving, keep trying different baits.
Try suspended baits just roving around at different depths.
I always throw lures around as well. I'm sure lots of follows have led to fish picking up baits.

+1

Also if you have the wind on you back abit of drifter fishing if on a still water....or trot a bait on the river....

But most importantly enjoy it!

As what most have said already, main thing is move around, sitting and waiting makes piking very slow, unlike carp you need to go to the them..

Best rigs in the world won't catch if the pike are not there.

If you are not catching, try other swims, different ranges etc. Very often you get a take within 15 minutes of casting. If I have not caught in that time I move my ledgered baits.

I always fish a roving float, letting the wind swing it around my swim.

As mentioned already in above posts, one on ledgered and one suspended float is my usual set-up.

By far the float set-up has been the most successful for me.

Interesting marty... in the river or still waters too.

Suspended deads are largely ignored unless being twitched back in my local waters. In the river however the movement is imparted by the flow and it work well.
Love the hit!

Both Kevin,
On rivers I hook the baits head first and let the flow move bait move down the swim.
On still waters generally hook tail first unless it is windy when I will use same technique as river set-up.

Key is to constantly change depth and search out the water columns.
