Here is an insight into Alex Cairnie's past world...moving away from a fishing aspect and into an individuals psyche.
9 to 5 it's not.
Cheers Alex and there is no dark side to the moon.

Good stuff but I always feel we should "take it to the enemy" from the air and not send our ground troops in when the enemy is still functioning. Thanks for what you have done for us Alex. Now I fear the enemy is in the gate.

You're a great writer, Alex....all the more so because you don't need to imagine what you're writing. Mighty stuff.

Another reminder to cringing cowards like myself of the debt we owe to others. Thanks for both, the piece of writing and the 'job' you've done on our behalf.

Re: Pikepool The Crossing by Alex Cairnie
It,s funny when you get to my age ( 50 last year) and you look at at the youngsters walking around and you listen to the old gits moaning about kids of today having it easy and generally getting slagged off and then you see the young lads and lasses in the forces winning medals for bravery out in Afghanistan. Some young lad got a posthumous VC last week for saving his mates. I read that and to be honest, it made me proud to be british. We might be s***e at football, the country might be on it,s knees, full up with immigrants and rapidly descending into the abyss but we still have the finest soldiers in the world. That might not go down well with the leftie liberals but feck em. I just wish we had the politicions the equal of our troops. Then we might have a great country again.

Re: Pikepool The Crossing by Alex Cairnie
Agree with Gavin and Chris totally and I come from a military family. BUT I can't help thinking that we should not be sending our finest and bravest into these s**t holes to lose their lives and get blown up by rag heads. What are we trying to achieve? Fight for their freedom? If so why? And every time there is unrest in the world a whole lot more of them pack their bags and come to live with us in the west bringing their horrid ways with them and undermining our culture. Sorry don't want to hijack Alex's excellent piece but feel that our boys are dying for F all.

Re: Pikepool The Crossing by Alex Cairnie
Certainly very deep thought provoking stuff there Alex, for sure, and yourself and our Armed Forces have my total respect mate.
I've often wondered what it is that can make one man desire to be put on the front line, and another wanting the complete opposite and perhaps I'll never know.... maybe it stems back to when mankind in it's infancy we were all hunters?
Thanks for the brief insight into your world Alex, you're a true Hero my friend, even though as you might say "It's just a job!"
