There’s proof with other fish, claimed a 40lb carp that came out two weeks later at 26!

Strange is definitely the word for him...

:afraid:

Making up weights with carp is a recipe for getting found out. The fish themselves and the weight at last capture tend to be known.

Looks like a bit of info is emerging. Weights of fish can be tricky they can go up and down overnight. A pike I caught at 26.10 was 27.10 next day

With pike, a large meal can obviously rapidly increase the weight, but with other species they're consistent within a short period unless they've just spawned (or someone has his foot on the weighsling).

Yup, especially when it’s a forty from a wild lake.

I personally don’t believe his zander claim, or any other he catches. He’s well known for making weights up round here.

Its defo a very big rudd as its a very big zander.
Not so sure about the rudd but at some points the zander looks most of its weight.

Cheers, Alan
I wasn’t fishing in that area at the time but there were a couple of zander in the 18.08 class knocking about. It looks big enough to be in that class

With quality photos all fish can usually be identified its just a matter of if they have been out before.

Most true, but have you ever heard of a zander with a name? There will have been numerous recaptures of the fenland big 'uns of yesteryear, but as far as I'm aware, none were named?

I seem to remember a named Zed in Steve Youngers book, it was something like the ‘swimmer’ can’t check as I am not at home at the minute.

There were two famous 90's ones, Alex & Non-Swimmer.

Same venue as Dave Lavender's fish. They're both mentioned in Steve Younger's book.
