David Lavender massive rudd

Post by Pikerd74 »

Do any of you know whether the captor of the potential record Rudd is the same David Lavender the fenland zander specialist?

Great to see him still having go, despite life’s challenges. Cracking fish, do you know if it was it from fenland Si?

Yep was from fenland area, have to say I think the weight is dubious unfortunately, I know the venue has done three’s but I can’t see it doing a Rudd that size if I’m being honest, hope I’m wrong though

5+ , that would be an astronomical rudd if the weight is correct.

If you're going to make claims you need to back them up, why publicise then state you're not interested in the record ?
We're anglers, we recognise the importance of big fish.

20+ years ago, I caught a fish over a national record here in Ireland. After some discussion with my mate at the water's edge, I decided not to bother with a claim as IMO, there was too much polava involved. The only relevance now is that, since then, the records for any of my usual species are of no real interest to me at all.
Getting back to this supposedly 5lb rudd... I'm lucky in that I've caught quite a few rudd of 3lbs+ and I've measured a few of the biggest, all around 16.5 to 17 inches. This photo is'nt the best and photos can be deceiving, the fish is quite fat, but I can't honestly see it being up to a third heavier again than my pb.

Not that deceiving though. I'd agree with 3lb-ish.

Don’t like doubting people but I’ve had a few this year , does his really look twice the size of this? I’m a big lad ( wrong side of 18 stone at the moment 😢)with big hands , I just don’t see it literally being twice the size of this one I caught the other week
I can’t imagine what a big three looks like, even mid twos are impressive!

I think we should know that David was always a strange chap. He caught a lot of big zander but sometimes I think he got carried away with it all. The most difficult type of angler to figure out is the one that catches lots of big fish then adds a load more. Who knows what goes on in some peoples minds.

Its defo a very big rudd as its a very big zander.
Not so sure about the rudd but at some points the zander looks most of its weight.

I wasn’t fishing in that area at the time but there were a couple of zander in the 18.08 class knocking about. It looks big enough to be in that class
