The patience of a heron

Post by davelumb »

It stood stock still for ages this morning staring at this patch of weeds (and the remains of a horse shelter) which the flail mower avoided. They must have a very high boredom threshold! Looked like a young bird to me.

I don't have a long telephoto these days so it's a cropped pic.

Probably spied a frog of something like that?
Never hold discussions with the monkey when the organ grinder is in the room.

Or hoping to spy one.

I was watching it while working and after about half an hour it's head had drooped a bit. I don't know how much longer it waited.

Seen them doing that when after young rabbits. They stand over and watch where their runs are through long grass. Same when they after voles/mice.
If they see one they just wait cos they know it will be back

Best fisherman on the river yesterday. You can see why they are so closely related to dinosaurs. When they fly off they sound ancient.I need to get a camera, the phone does not cut it.

They are good as gold Steve IMO, not greedy like Cormorants. I'm a visitor for fun, they live there.

My mate told me a story of a school teacher telling her class kids that "there was a bird flying backwards" up there :laughs:

Kids, they've got no fookin chance

Totally out of character, this one used to be seen "strutting it's stuff" with the ducks at the riverside car park in the Muckle Toon, (Langholm).

It was quite approachable and would pose for pics and take food from you.

I fed it half a KitKat, it then followed me back to the car, I guess they like chocky biscuits. :laughs:

Bob.
