Re: Moles
Nevs moles always about Dave.
The park I walk the dog had new mole hills poking though the snow.
Though we darn sarf don’t have the permafrost you northern monkeys have to endure.
Have noticed fresh hills along the lane more so since the fields have been ploughed.

Re: Moles
The ones in the park are always in the same areas and are not trapped, there also close to woodland and defo active all winter.
I guess the open field ones could just be searching for food and making new runs as the ground warms up and food becomes active in the upper layers. Agree though some areas are very hilly.
My mate had this in his lawn from just one mole
For Google’s benefit I found a natural balance very quickly

Re: Moles
A lot of Moles died last summer, they just couldn’t stick the heat. I think with a shortage of worms and the hard digging (hard being an understatement) the dry ground took it’s toll.
Found quite a few dead in the summer and not just me others said the same.
I think they breed around May so are probably getting the runs ready for the traps that will be going in, sorry I mean cleaning out the runs for a new partner.
It’s unseasonably warm, needs a permafrost, better than viagra for stiffening up the little sods.

He told me of the time he watched a mole swim all the way across the river. Said he almost felt sorry for it when it scrabbled ashore...

I’m sure you took it for a long walk………………. to the bin!
Here’s a tip for speedy capture. My mate had set traps but failed.
I cut through tunnel then dug a hole in tench, sunk a plastic bottle with top cut off flush to floor of tunnel then added handful of worms to bottle. Installed trap either side then recovered and fitted flower pots over traps to keep them dark.
First night caught him.

I'd be glad of a few moles in my garden TBH. There'd be less moss to mow.
