Daylight barn owl

Post by davelumb »

I'm guessing this one has hungry beaks to feed hunting at 9am.

They do say that if you see one in the daytime, there is something wrong.

Hopefully maybe it just could not feed during heavy rainfall?

I've seen it about three mornings in the last week.

It's been back for its supper. These are only record shots. I don't have the right gear for wildlife photography these days.

Am I right in thinking that if it does not bring enough food back to the chicks, the biggest chick will eat the smallest one?

Shocking behaviour; but not as shocking as seeing the mother nightjar eating its own chick on Spwingwatch!

That sounds likley.

A lot of creatures devour their young.

Most would quite happily devour us, were it not for our good fortune of scale!

(I often think that is part of the subconscious appeal of fishing for pike).

The species is a prolific day time hunter. I often see one quartering a patch of fen or meadow during the day.
I don't care who your dad is , you're not walking across the river when I'm fishing!

I can't remember seening them in work hours, unlike Shorties.

An evening visit today as well as a morning one. It probably visits every day but I don't see it.
