Cute....
.... but I think they may have to die!
Unfortunately a squirrel or three have found their way though the eaves of our roof and into the loft space and with the roof design I think the best way is to kill them so I am wondering the best way of going about this?
Can they be trapped or is it baiting?
I would rather not have to kill them but I think its the only way.
Cheers, Alan

Re: Cute....
If you trap them you could get some tasty meals out of the tree rats so they wouldn't have died in vain.

Re: Cute....
I have not seen it for years but perhaps you could kill them and then hang their bodies from barbed wire at the entrance to your drive to deter others. It is something farmers used to do. As a child I have seen rabbits, hares, stoats, weasels and magpies strung up at the same time. Thinking about it I had never even seen a live stoat in that area before the dead one, perhaps it works.

Re: Cute....
A fishery a couple miles away from me had a cormorant hung on a fence quite a few years ago.
I'd tempt them with a feeder and shoot them, quick and humane, poisoning is a bad way to go and a bad thing to do IMO!

We have been here nearly 8 years and never had a problem, I think its just one or two animals that need removing before all the others learn if they have not already.

If you shoot them you could skin them and make a hat have a meal and crush the bones and remains for fertiliser waste not

Maybe it was proof of capture before you got paid per mole!Chico 48 PAC wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18 2024 13:33 -I can remember seeing it many times, my old man told me that it was how game keepers showed land owners that they were doing their job, I don't know if that's correct but does seem to make senseI have not seen it for years but perhaps you could kill them and then hang their bodies from barbed wire at the entrance to your drive to deter others. It's done to prove the mole catcher is doing his job. It still goes on.
If they don't drop them in a lick bucket!
