First ferox trip of 23
The weather was forecast as snow sub zero conditions wind rain sleet etc etc.
The hotel was booked so we went for it . 3 boats 6 men. We had the hotel for the week but already knew some of the guys wouldn't be able to do the full week due to family commitments.
The opening day was horrendous freezing cold but not too windy so it was fishable. Callum quickly had a 13lb escapee rainbow which was chapped. Then Micky in the same boat had a 7lb 11oz ferox which was well deserved. This fish was tagged .
Aya was quick to send us the info he had on this fish.
We trolled around until late on in the afternoon till the wind picked up and brought sleet with it so we headed in.
Continued later.....

Re: First ferox trip of 23
Next day was absolutely horrible we trolled to another area of the Loch and seen some fish on the finder we marked that spot for next day which was forecast to be a bit more sensible.
All we had that day was a small kelt to Andy and Boabs boat.
It was a relief to get in and have some steaks and beers and try and dry our clothes.

Re: First ferox trip of 23
The next day was Friday and at last the weather was decent. Andy had to go home for a family party on Saturday but still had the day to fish.
He headed up the Loch and I headed down to where I'd seen fish on the finder . It was flat calm and there were fish on the surface they looked like maybe roach so we got the rods in and began trolling George had a Brown around 1.5lb straight away but that was all the excitement in that area.
I took a pic of it and the lure and sent it to my mates.
We trolled on and for the first time I was confident I had deadbaits on and they were all swimming perfectly but it wasn't to be I had one half hearted take on a roach and that was it. We began to troll in (we were 10 miles from the slip)
And it was getting on when Andy text on his way in to go home he had caught a 9lb 1oz ferox on the same lure George had caught his wee o e on that morning.
Why Didn't I Think Of That.

We made it in to congratulate him just as he was leaving.
I heard there was another ferox of 7lb caught that day .

Re: First ferox trip of 23
The following day was horrendous we didn't even think about going out . I think those that did regretted it.
It was a day for hanging about the hotel drinking wine checking the Boats then drinking some more.
The next day was forecast to be decent in the morning but getting bad again. We made the decision to fish till 1 o'clock then get down the road.
We were up early and cleared the digs up packed and headed to the Boats. We both knew exactly the spot we were heading for . I said to George the first ones out there will catch !! Unfortunately he was rough with the drink and we were last out . Before we had got our last rod in the phone went... Micky had done it again. Another ferox
7lb 3oz
And that was it. We trolled for a few more hrs and went in as the wind was picking up again.
Considering the weather and the venue we done pretty well . 3 Ferox is decent for any Loch at any time.

I've got mates who've done this on the opening day of the troot season. Trolling for a week in mental conditions, for not a lot usually!
It's probably the toughest fresh water fishing you can do in the UK, so well done Fergie, a great read!!!

Cheers Gus .
We were a bit scunnered with the weather as it had been bright dry cold and calm the week before but it's the risk you take in March . On the way home we were already making plans for the next trip.

That trip sounds intense, Fergie! I've done a bit of fishing in rough weather before, and honestly, it can be brutal but also oddly rewarding. I remember one early spring trip where we battled freezing rain, and just like you, the highlight was warming up with good food and drinks afterward. The thrill of marking a spot on the finder and returning the next day keeps me hooked, though there's nothing like the anticipation of possibly landing a big one.
If you're interested in unique outdoor experiences, you should Discover here a family-friendly resort with activities like horseback riding. It might offer a different kind of adventure you'd enjoy.

The hotel is now unfortunately closed so this years trip might involve camping so I will be weather watching and base my decision on that .
