Will try and get more info when I see him

Wow that's some growth rate . I can't see how a wild fish can attain that size without being a very predatory.

I agree, outrageous growth. I think possibly the fish was predatory but genetically not ferox. Its something I don't know enough about to be honest. Must do some reading

Bloody hell, that is some growth rate. I'd read a comment from someone in IFI years ago about the big Corrib trout having a high growth rate and a relatively short lifespan (10-12 years), but I did'nt think trout could grow that fast  .

I'm sure there was a 21lb trout found dead in the outflowing river at Loch Awe was 6 years old mate.

Whoever done that will have been using a certain genetic marker to classify these fish.
Not all the scientists agree with that technique.
It might actually be on that other thread. ?

The brown trout is a very plastic species. It exists in several forms such as the sea trout. All are Salmo trutta. One species. There are variations which are all a function of the environment it lives in. A 15 lb brown that lives under a trout cage is one variety of one species. A dedicated predator or Ferox is another. A Gillaro in N Ireland is another. The 11 I i had off of Corrib years ago was simply a beautiful fish!!

Not catching happens to everyone. When you fish seriously it is not a load of fun. I look at it this way when I am struggling. I am doing my best. I am not poncing off of someone else. No one will cry or die if I never catch another fish

I try and look at it that every blank puts me a few hrs closer to my next fish.
I'm spoiled though as I usually catch .
Ferox trolling is definitely a matter of putting the hrs in.
Once you know the how's and the Where's its all about the hrs on the water.

I'm out tomorrow it's a Bank Holiday and I swore I'd never fish another one as the jet skis and speed boats can make for a stressful day's fishing.
But what the hell. I will be on here tomorrow night bleating about them :boing:

I am Not ferox fishing at the moment but I have caught one on a static dead and it was 11 lb. That was years ago I might add In over 30 years of pike fishing in the west of Ireland I have only had one other and that was 5 lb. I had a trolled small mack chopped in half which I think was a trout. In the uk the odd big trout have turned up from the reservoirs but these are often big browns that live under the cages. Fish to 12 lb but they are not the same as the wild ones!!!

Aye that’s how I look at it to, I don’t mind the odd blank but constantly blanking isn’t enjoyable but necessary to get among decent fish on hard waters, keep us posted Fergie! At least the water u fish has some great scenery and odd pike to break it up the blanks

Steve, you have done a few hours trolling on big waters, I am assuming that you will have had a few encounters with large trout in your time ?

I've had about 6 in total Will, the best one 9 lb so not the ones you're searching for !!
You'd need three lifetimes and that's assuming they are even present.

Well they certainly are present Steve, just need a big dollop of luck to speed the job up a bit :laughs: .
I am a relatively new crusader to be fair, we only started fishing for them about 15 years ago now, we never ever picked one up when piking though.
Going to try a new (to me) method next week, just to keep things interesting.

Will.
