Eel baits

Post by davelumb »

This lot should see me through the summer.

My local tackle dealer couldn't be arsed repacking them into handier bags so he gave them to me.

My eel baits for the summer cost me the price of a half pint of maggots. In Carpy terms about the same price as 6 boilies!

You never know Mr Lumb ,
As with Steve Rickets there could be a monster in one of your regular waters that just hasn’t been caught.

Ah ok, I've read they weren't as good as fresh. Nice to hear you're confident using them.

dont think eels are that fussy when it comes to fish baits , bet they come across dead decaying fish and eat them ......but you still have to put a bait in-front of one first

been out today 3 rods out , worms on one , a maggot rig on another , and a roach head on the 3rd rod .......not a snifferoo...
caught a shed load of roach on the float rod but the roach were all to big for baiters .......hay ho ....lovely big deep quarry venue where i had a nice snigg a few seasons ago ......

I think some baits definitely improve as they decay, Steve because as the cell structure of the material breaks down, more goodness is released and some species of animal actually prefer decaying food as its easier to digest.
I did a test with a sardine and pike, I let a sardine go well off, then froze it for casting and very quickly caught.
The more hemp goes off the more barbel and carp like it.
The main thing about fresh bait is that its easier on us!

Had to stop fishing for zander tonight as I quickly had 4 unhittable fast runs, dark stormy hot and humid weather, ideal for eels!

Cheers, Alan

I was having a slow night the other week, not a sniff. Went for a p**s and.... Screaming run that stopped as soon as I got to the rod.

been out about 6 sessions on the eels .....loads of missed runs on small roach live and deads , had a few perch to the same baits
no night sessions just day time about 4 hours a session ,did get a nice common on a bunch of worms about 15lb............ which was nice
my mate lost a nice eel to a live roach at the net ......about 5lb could have been bigger though ........just a guesstimate
