Prices were struggling today. I left early but a few had reached the 4,000 guineas range after a slow start.

Re: Sheep dogs for sale
A good 'un is worth is weight in gold.
I only had one, Tess, I was told she cost 500 in 1974, then the estate went out of sheep and she ended up as a pet before I was given her for the price of asking' and a box of chocolates.
She would bring my flock of 170 off the hill and back to the farm with me hardly having to do a thing apart from walk infront.
But hard, she had the face of one ewe that stood its ground and could kill a fox as quick as look at it even though she'd had one canine chiseled off by the previous owner.
Thanks for the photographs Dave.

Sorry but in my experience they do.
Yes, there is often a handback of luck money on livestock but Ive never known it be more than a 50 note or two even with prices into five figures.

I've got to know quite a few in 'the fancy' now and had pics published in Fancy Fowl magazine. But sheep and sheep dogs are taking over these days. I'm a bit burnt out with chickens.davelumb wrote: ↑Yup which auctions do you go to Dave? I did it for my own amusement and gave a copy each to the mart and the local poultry club as a thank-you for allowing me to take photos.

Chickens isn't the Pope known as the top dog so to speak?
Auctioneers are real entertainers if they are good, been to a few over the years when my old man was in the "meat game". Part showman, part swindler. Not too dissimilar to the old market traders.
